On Sunday, the award-winning news magazine television show “60 Minutes,” which airs at 7 p.m. on CBS, will feature the process of how new oak barrels are built, charred, and then filled with what will become bourbon through years of aging.
Newsman Bill Whitaker and the CBS crew recently traveled to Kentucky, and for several days, produced a story on the life of a bourbon barrel. While reporting the story, the CBS production crew visited the Independent Stave Company, Midwest Barrel Company, and Bardstown Bourbon Company where Master Blender Dan Callaway spent two days with Whitaker explaining how the barrel influences the flavor of the spirit.
